Notes from the Winemaker:
The most classic and the most famous among the wines by Fattoria del Cerro. It has a vivid ruby red colour and good concentration. Intense fragrant aroma with evident fruity notes among which wild black cherry, violet and vanilla. Full balanced flavour with noticeable but discreet tannic component. Serve in medium size wine glasses at 16- 18°C. It can be served with appetizers first courses with meat and mushroom sauces, grilled meats and roast white meats and medium aged cheese.
Ratings & Reviews
93 Points – James Suckling:
“Perfumed with ripe rose, cream and sweet plums on the nose. Lots of fresh berries with savory, minty character, a layer of silky tannins and hazelnut on the palate. Better in 2016.” (Oct 2014)
92 Points – Wine Spectator Magazine:
“Broad and nicely balanced, offering plum, cherry, leather and tobacco flavors. Lingers well, picking up a mineral note on the finish. Ideal for grilled or braised meats. Drink now through 2022. 29,165 cases made.” – Bruce Sanderson (October 2015)
Vinous Media:
“Super-ripe black cherries, smoke, tobacco, plums and spices flesh out in the 2011 Vino Nobile di Montepulciano. This is a decidedly opulent, fruit-driven vintage for the Vino Nobile, with plenty of overall depth and richness but tannins that aren’t fully ripe. Still, this is a solid wine in its price range. Wine Tasted: May 2014.” – Antonio Galloni (October 2014)
91 Points – James Suckling (2010 Vintage):
“A soft and fruity wine with chocolate, berry and hazelnut character. Full-bodied, delicious and a caressing and beautiful palate. Drink now. Why wait?” -James Suckling (December 20th, 2013)
Wine Spectator Magazine (2010 Vintage):
“Evoking bright cherry and spice flavors, this red is medium-bodied and elegant. Displays good grip and moderate length on the finish. Drink now through 2018. 2,917 cases made.” -BS (Jul 31, 2013)
Wine Enthusiast Magazine (2010 Vintage):
“This has a spicy bouquet of black pepper, nutmeg and plum punctuated by sandalwood notes. The palate is subdued, revealing bitter cherry, vanilla and coffee flavors. The finish is short, with drying tannins.” -Kerin O’Keefe (10/1/2013)
92 Points – Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate (2009 vintage) :
“The 2009 Vino Nobile di Montepulciano wraps around the palate with succulent dark cherries, mint, tobacco, licorice and new leather. The 2009 boasts gorgeous inner perfume and luscious fruit, all supported by firm yet beautifully integrated tannins. The Rosso is 90% Prugnolo Gentile, 5% Colorino and 5% Mammolo, aged 70% in cask and 30% in barrique. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2019.” -Antonio Galloni (Jun 2012)
