Notes from the Winemaker:
The wine that made Tenimenti Luigi d’Alessandro famous for Syrah production is named for the winery’s oldest vineyard, Il Bosco. The grapes for this wine are vinified in truncated cone-shaped barrels which help to maintain a naturally consistent fermentation temperature leading to an elegant, age-worthy wine.
Tasting Notes:
This ruby red wine has aromas of red cherries, dark chocolate, coffee, lavender, and rosemary. The wine’s vivid acidity is balanced by firm tannins which give the wine excellent structure and body.
Food Pairing:
Pair with prosciutto-wrapped grissini, herb roasted lamb, and balsamic-glazed chicken.
Ratings & Reviews
94 Points – James Suckling:
“Complex aromas of dried meat, pancetta and dark fruits follow through to a full body, with fine tannins and lots of subtle fruit. Nutty and minerally at the finish. I like the style and different character in this young wine. Better in 2014.” – JS (Aug 29, 2012)
93 Points – Vinous Media:
“A deep, plush wine, the 2009 Syrah Il Bosco needs time to develop the breadth of its aromas and flavors, but it is nevertheless striking today. Plums, pipe tobacco, cedar and black olives flesh out in this gorgeous, broad-shouldered Syrah. An explosive yet nuanced finish rounds things out in style. I can’t wait to check in on the 2009 in another few years.” – Antonio Galloni (August 2013)
91 Points – Wine Spectator Magazine:
“A hefty dose of oak adds a resinous sheen and a layer of tannins to this red, with cherry and currant notes lingering in the background. Though this is firm, there’s sweetness too, so be patient. Best from 2015 through 2028. 1080 cases made.” BS (10/31/2012)
